THE CLASSIC CHANNEL REGATTA 2013
The next Classic Channel Regatta will be from July 6th to 13th 2013

The Classic Channel Regatta is a uniquely enjoyable event that offers you, in just one week, a combination of two days racing round the buoys off Dartmouth, two passage races in the Channel and two Around the Island races, one round Ile de Brehat at Paimpol and one round Sark in the Channel Islands.

The regatta has a typically West Country and Breton informality and the full programme of evening entertainment is in keeping with this relaxed atmosphere (so the gents can leave their blazers at home!). The programme for 2013 will follow much the same format as in 2011 and the provisional programme can be seen by clicking here .

The regatta is organised as a joint Anglo-Breton event by two teams of volunteers working in both Britain and France. During the week the regatta takes you to two countries and three of the finest historic ports in the Channel – beautiful Dartmouth in Devon, lively Paimpol in Brittany and wonderful St Peter Port in Guernsey.

There is a good mix of entrants from Britain and France, plus a few from further afield.

Eligibility - you most certainly don't have to have a concours condition, million dollar classic to take part. All classic yachts, however magnificent or humble, launched before the end of 1976, including some fibreglass designs and some more recent traditionally built yachts of classic character, are eligible. For full details see classes and eligibility .

With its Corinthian Spirit you are just as welcome whether you are a racing hotshot or a cruising sailor with a more relaxed approach to enjoying some gentlemanly racing in good company. And if you aren't too keen on racing at all, you can just treat it as a very sociable cruise-in-company.

You can enter all or parts of the regatta as you wish. For the 2013 regatta we are pulling out all the stops to get, for the first time ever, 100 classic yachts racing across the Channel from Dartmouth to Paimpol in the Classic Channel Race - so do come and help us make our 100 yacht target - and enjoy being a part of what we hope will be an historic event.

You can pre-register for 2013 now by clicking here . It takes only a few minutes, it guarantees you a place and lets us keep you informed as plans develop.

All the previous Classic Channel Regattas have been highly enjoyable - here are some of the comments from past entrants:

"Racing organisation was first-class...great parties, good food....and of course a great collection of boats and people."

"The epic racing, magnificent boats, challenging passages, fantastic ports. From Dartmouth to Paimpol and Guernsey it is the 'entente cordiale' to celebrate the best classic regatta in the Channel."

"Overall a fantastic show...faultless throughout. Had the best sailing and racing ever and have met some really great people."

"The regatta was the high point of our summer in Europe."

"I have to say how impressed I was with the organisation of the regatta this year. It really was excellent and your team are to be congratulated."

"Such a great event again - really good balance of racing, picnic-ing, visiting, dining, and just the right amount of time off."

"Many thanks for a brilliant week, will definitely be there again next time."

"Thank you for organising a fantastic event which my crew and I all thoroughly enjoyed. The race over to France was fabulous and with the spinnaker up all night we just flew along - magic!"

"Great sailing, great company and great organisation yet again."

"The world's most enjoyable classic yacht regatta."

Guy L'Hostis is a well known marine artist born in Paimpol to a family with a strong maritime tradition.
Largely self-taught, he paints in gouache and oil, but water colour is his preferred medium.
His passion for painting marine scenes comes from 29 years experience with the merchant navy as well as cruises and regattas on various sailing boats.

Guy very kindly donated the original of this beautiful painting to the Classic Channel Regatta specially for us to use in connection with the 2011 event. The framed original was presented as the special 'Spirit of the Regatta' trophy to the Laurent Giles Channel Class yacht ‘Triune of Troy’.

We are very grateful to Guy for his very generous artistic contribution.
Please click on the picture to visit his website and when you are in Paimpol, do visit his gallery in the centre of the old town at 13 rue des Huit Patriotes.
